A month and a half ago, Apple announced the release of a new Apple TV -- to be released at the end of October. That kind of "surprise!" announcement by Apple is nothing new, even though it wreaks havoc on developers like me.

At the time, we were wrapping up one game and ramping up on another. Company management immediately shifted priorities. The new game would need to be finished before Apple TV launch. The programmers and artists all said it couldn't be done. But we're a small developer. It is in our design to be "agile".

The company quickly shifted 100% of development staff onto the new game. And we kicked butt. The game is pretty well done, though it needs some more quality assurance time before it can go live. So... "soon".

At the company meeting on Oct 30, the big boss called out the art department for stepping up and delivering a ton of art in a short period of time. He then handed each of the four of us a crisp $50 bill. I felt a little sheepish -- I am not someone comfortable with being singled out. But it is motivating.

When the meeting was done, and the party began, I returned to my desk to complete the task I'd promised by week's end.
